Shoot'nPaste FAQ
1. How to achieve accurate recognitions?
Please be aware that this application is intended to recognize text extracts from printed material such as magazines, newspapers and books. It will not work with a snapshot of a cereal box or an entire page of text. Also, extra cares must be taken to achieve successful results when using a hand-held camera like the iPhone. So please carefully follow these guidelines:
Good lighting
Most important, you need very good lighting. Place the document next to a good light source avoiding any glare. The ambient light in an office is insufficient and dramatically reduces the recognition accuracy.
Minimize shaking
In each cases, ensure that you hold the iPhone with steady hands. Standing up, hold the iPhone with both hands and bring your forearms in contact with your torso. This reduces shaking and results in a sharper picture.
Good Focus
The image needs to be in focus. While the camera focuses, and until the shutter is pressed, avoid any movements that could ruin the process. If you have any doubts on the quality of the focus, simply tap the screen and the camera will refocus. Also, be aware that if the document is not flat or if you do not hold the device parallel to your document, some parts of the image will not be in focus.
Text selection
Do not select an area of the image that includes different text sizes or fonts. Instead, separate the document into paragraphs and process them separately. Also, ensure that the background in the selected area is uniform and does not include any graphics. Inappropriate selection is the main reason for which you could get garbage in your results.
Ensure the lens is clean!
